Hello all!  So this past week was great!  I hope that everyone had an awesome Christmas and is looking forward to the new year.  It was a good week.  A bit slow, but people are busy!  But it was great to have an authentic Finnish Christmas!  It's pretty much the same, but I will say the food here is amazing when it comes to Christmas time!  I hope you all remembered the Savior and the importance of why we have Christmas!
  • Mosiah 27:4
  • Mosiah 26:29-31
  • Mosiah 23:27-28
  • Mosiah 24:10-16
  • Mosiah 27:25-26
So this coming year we need to remember that we can change and become better.  Remember that we can become new creatures through Christ and the start of a new year is a great time to start the process!  Happy new year!

Hello everyone!  So this past week was good.  We had some downs this week but we also had some awesome people this past week who want to learn more!  So that was super cool.  Plus we had exchanges so that was also way fun.  The work is going great and the weather is pretty sweet.  Apparently we're warmer here than there in Utah.  Kind of funny, hah.  But yeah, it was a really good week and we've been having lot's of fun and lot's of people are happy to listen!
  • Mosiah 4:11-12
  • Mosiah 2:41
  • Mosiah 3:5-13
  • Mosiah 3:19-20
  • Mosiah 5:7-13
Pretty much this week I just want everyone to read the Christmas story and remember the true meaning of Christmas.  Remember this time is to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!!  Hyvää Joulua!!

Hello everyone!  Well this last week went super well.  We found lot's of people and we've been teaching people about Jesus Christ.  There's not a better time of the year than this to be out helping people grow their faith.  We've been having lots of fun and everything has been going great.  There's nothing too crazy that happened, pretty much just normal mission life!

Well I forgot my planner at home with the scriptures in it, so this week just make sure to read your scriptures!  Some great chapters are Mosiah 2-5!

Spiritual message this week consists of a quote by President Hinckley.  "Forget yourself, and go to work."  Remember that the Christmas time is a time of giving and a time to help lift others.  As you turn out like the Savior did, you will find more joy in your Christmas time.  I promise that.  Have an awesome week!

Hello everyone!  So this next week is transfers!  I will be going to Kokkola which is a city on the west side of Finland right on the coast!  So that'll be fun.  I'll be serving with another Elder Baker, not the same one, and it's going to be great!  It's been really fun to be here in Kajaani and I'm very grateful that I got to know the members here.  But the Lord's work moves forward and I'm off to a new adventure!  This past week has been really good.  It's been a bit scary because the snow has been melting which makes it a bit more difficult to ride a bike, but that is okay.  Anyways, yeah!
  • Luke 22:32
  • 2 Nephi 11:4
  • 2 Nephi 10:23-24
  • 2 Nephi 12:17
  • D&C 64:33-34
The spiritual thought this week comes from the talents that God gives to us.  Remember, in order to be thankful for the things that God gives to us, we must use them.  Hide not the talent that is in you and especially as Thanksgiving comes around, remember that you have so much to be thankful for.  One thing in particular I am grateful for is the opportunity to face adversity and challenges in my life.  That's how we all grow and I'm very thankful for that.  Remember to be grateful for what God has given you, and as always, remember Him.

Hello everyone!  For those of you who don't know, or have just forgotten, I don't blame you, it was my year mark this week!  Wooooooooooo!  It was a good week of finding and teaching.  It's been cold but hey, it just makes us better.  We also got to have Zone Meeting and Exchanges this past week which made it go fast.  It's pretty crazy to think it's been a year!  But hey, that's what they all say.

  • 2 Nephi 7:5-9
  • 2 Nephi 2:22-29
  • 2 Nephi 4:26-35
  • 2 Nephi 4:2:15
  • 2 Nephi 4:16-22
The spiritual thought this week just comes from the idea of not wasting time.  Remember, your time is limited and you are meant to live your life.  Sometimes things happen in our lives but it always comes back to the trust that you put into the Lord.  This woman is an amazing example of this.  Have a great week!

Hello everyone! So this past week went well.  We had some great dinner appointments with members some awesome lessons with our investigators.  They are doing great and lot's of them are progressing in gaining and strengthening their tesimonies of Jesus Christ.  What more can you want!?  But yeah, the work is going along great here in the area and we have been finding a lot of really cool people, even if it is super cold!  The snow's back and biking in it is definitely an experience.  But yeah, it was a really good week!
  • 2 Nephi 2:6-7
  • 1 Nephi 20:18
  • 1 Nephi 19:9
  • 2 Nephi 2:11
  • Matthew 5:43-48
So the message this week is actually a really good quote from President Monson.  It says, "Of this be sure: You do not find a happy life...you make it."  Remember, we are made to create our lives.  We have been made as things that are to act, and not to be acted upon.  When life feels like it is controlling you, take control and make your own destiny.  That is the reason God has given us agency, such that we can act.  Make it a great week!

Hello all!  This past week was great!  We had a lot of success in finding and teaching people. For some reason people were just ready to hear this week!  That was pretty cool.  Speaking of cool, we got snow this week!  Like a lot!  But it's all gone now......but that's okay, it'll be back!  It's pretty crazy that Halloween is come and gone.  I hope that you all had a great time, in whatever capacity you celebrate.  Haha, I know my family was probably just downstairs trying to hide.  But I hope everyone had a great week!

Scriptures (I forgot my list at home so there aren't too many!):
  • 1 Nephi 17:3
  • 1 Nephi 17:13
  • 1 Nephi 17:50
My spiritual thought comes from a great new series on the Mormon Channel called "Hope Works."  In this episode this man talks about a question that changed his life.  I've started to ask myself the same question and as I have implemented the question, "Will this matter in 1,000 years?" I find myself focusing on the more important things in life and devoting my energy into doing those things. Ask yourself that question this week and see what you can change.  Because remember, the Gospel means change.  So become better because of it!  I love you all, have an awesome week!

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

Hello everyone!  I hope you all had a great week.  It was pretty good here in Kajaani.  We were able to do a bunch of service for people this week which is kind of rare in Finland.  So that was really awesome!  Plus our investigators are doing really well.  One is super interested about family history and he's really progessing towards a stronger faith in Jesus Christ.  It' super cool to see!

Some super sweet scriptures this week.  I was able to finish the New Testament and the Book of Mormon in the same week!  I know the scriptures are true.
  • Moroni 9:6
  • Moroni 9:25
  • Moroni 10:7
  • Moroni 10:23
  • Moroni 10:32-33
  • Proverbs 23:4,7
  • D&C 6:7,13,33-36
  • D&C 8
I know it's a lot but they are all great!  Spiritual thought this week comes from a quote that I saw this week, "He lives to bless us, teach us, to heal us, to touch our troubled hearts, to give substance to our greatest dreams." - President Hinckley  Remember that God wants us to become great.  We are destined for greatness, and He is always there to help us become what He knows we can become.  Remember that you are the offspring of an All-Powerful Being.  Don't lose sight of that when it seems hard to recognize.  Have a great week and truly follow your dreams!

Hello everyone!  This past week was good and crazy.  Lot's of traveling.  I went and did work in Kuopio with Elder Ashby for a day which was fun, and we had Zone Conference which was good as well.  The only downside was all the travel, but you get kind of used to it!  But things are going well here and the work is moving forward.

Email Scriptures:
  • Ether 12:4
  • Ether 12:8-9
  • 1 John 3:1-2
  • 1 John 3:16
  • 1 John 3:18
  • 1 John 3:13
My spiritual thought for this week comes from Ether 12:4.  It talks about how when we have faith, we are able to hope for a better world.  That is the basis of my testimony.  This gospel brings life and light to my life and a hope that someday the things of this world will become better.  That my life has purpose and that I am able to have an amazing hope that I can someday live with my Father in Heaven again.  I know that each of us can as long as we trust Him and do the things He's asked.  There is always hope for a brighter tomorrow and eternity.

Hello everyone!  So this past week was great.  Conference was really amazing and I hope that you all had the opportunity to watch.  How amazing it is that we have a living prophet upon the Earth and that we are able to be lead by God in our day.  I love this gospel and this church!  It's so great to see how we can be blessed through living revelation and just to know that God loves us now and that He's called inspired men to lead us.  Sorry for the rant, but it's a pretty big deal.  This past week went well though!  Two of our investigators accepted a baptismal date and we are working with them to strengthen their testimonies so that they will be ready.  It's amazing to see how the Lord prepares people and even though people were not ready at times before, they can be ready now.

Some super sweet scriptures for you all!
  • Hebrews 5:8-9
  • Ether 1:38
  • Hebrews 13:6
  • James 4:11-12
  • 1 Peter 2:15,17,24
  • Ether 8:26
Spiritual thought this week comes from something that at least my close family knows really well.  We heard it on a podcast that we were listening to and it reminded me how great of a saying it truly is, "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference."  There are things in this life that are absolutes and that may just come to us without our consent.  There are also things that we have control over and in that control we are able to choose for ourselves what we think may be best.  However, many times we mix what we can change and what we can't and then we begin to focus on the things that we can't change and the fact that we can't change them.  However, God has given us agency and He is always willing to help us to know how we can make the things we can change, the best possible.  So have the serenity, courage, and wisdom to know that God loves you and that He is always willing to help you.  I love you all!

Monday, September 26, 2016

Hello everyone!  Well it's been a crazy week alright.  Both Elder Aldous and I got super sick this past week and so it has been pretty hard to do really good work.  But we've still been able to teach and to help others come closer to Christ.  That is all that matters.  We also got transfer calls this past week!  I will be staying in Kajaani and my new companion will be Elder Ford.  He's a really cool Elder and I can't wait to work with him.  Elder Aldous gets the privilege of going to Hyvinkää!  So that was pretty sweet to hear.  But anyways, yeah that is about it for what happened this week, just lot's of trying to get better and Elder Aldous saying goodbye to people.

Scriptures for the week, you know the routine!
  • 3 Nephi 22:15
  • Philippians 2:12
  • Philippians 4:11
  • Philippians 4:13
  • Colossians 3:10-16
My spiritual thought this week is just about remembering who you are.  We are all of divine descent.  Think about what it truly means when you say that, "I am a child of God."  Remember what exactly that means and the potential that you have.  And now my challenge for the week is for you to think about that and how you can more fully use that potential in the coming weeks.  You've got it in you!  I love you all, have an awesome week.

Hello everyone!  So this past week was CRAZY.  We had to go to Oulu 4 times, which is a 3 hour trip there and then another 3 hours back!  So Elder Aldous and I were just completely wrecked.  Haha but that is okay because we still were able to do some work in our area and so that was really good.  We had District Conference, our last District Meeting, and then Zone Meeting.  Pretty awesome.  Overall is was a pretty good week and I learned a lot!

My spiritual thought this week came from the Seventy that visited for District Conference.  He was telling a story and at the end he told of how his brother in law saw a patch on his sisters scriptures.  The patch said, "Gravity."  She then explained how God's love is just like gravity.  That no matter how much you try to fight it or deny that it is there....it is ALWAYS there.  And it ALWAYS works.  So remember that when hard times come.  That when that pen falls off the desk because of gravity, know that God's love is just like that.  And it is always with you, no matter where you go.  I love you all and have an awesome week!

P.S. Yes I know, I know.  I forgot to write down scriptures for the week....just study 3 Nephi and 1 Corinthians!!

Tuesday, September 6, 2016

Hello everyone!  So this past week was a great!  We actually just got back from exchanges in Oulu so that was super super fun!  I got to spend the day with the Zone Leaders which was really great.  We did have to let two of our investigators go but that is just how missionary work goes!  If they aren't ready, then you just keep pushing forward until you find the ones that are ready to act!  But overall a really good week, just getting pretty cold up here in the north haha.

Scriptures for the week!
  • Acts 14:22
  • Acts 10:43
  • Acts 10:34
  • Alma 60:36
  • Alma 57:21
My spiritual thought this week comes from one of those scriptures.  It talks about how God is no respecter of persons.  He is everyone's Heavenly Father and He loves us all.  Thus we should love God.  And as we love God we are brought to the second great commandment that tells us we need to love others.  So this week, how about you give someone a compliment every day?  It might sound difficult to make it genuine, but it'll be worth it.  And just love people, because we are all brothers and sisters together on this journey called life.  I love you all!  Have an awesome week.

Well this week was awesome to say the least.  We had this thing called Mission Tour where Elder Johnson and Elder Sabin came with their wives to teach us and help us become better missionaries.  It was SO good!  I learned a lot about helping our investigators to grow in the Gospel and just how to do better work.  Speaking of investigators we were blessed enough to find 5 new people who want to continue to learn about the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ!  How awesome is that?!?  All of them are super cool and I can just say that the work is moving forward here in Kajaani.  Thank you everyone for your prayers and support, the road has been hard, but the work is finally paying off.  Now we just have to keep it up!

So I totally forgot to make a list for email scriptures this week.....sorry about that.  But I can give you a couple sweet chapters in Acts that are totally worth reading!  Acts 4 and Acts 5.  Read them, they are super super good.

My spiritual thought this week comes from something Elder Johnson talked about.  He talked about how he, figuratively, wanted to be in the NBA, but he didn't want to practice or doing anything to get there.  He just wanted to be ready and a superstar as soon as he got into the game of the NBA finals.  Well we all know it doesn't work like that.  He related this to our investigators, but I think it applies to everyone.  Everyone wants to be great.  Everyone wants to make something of themselves.  The only difference in people is if they are willing to work to get there.  Remember that "There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going." - Sheri Dew.  To reach our full potential is indeed a long path, but it is made up of short steps.  So keep moving and work at becoming the best you you can be.  I love you all and have an amazing week!

Hello everyone!  So this past week was pretty good!  As always Disc Golf was way fun, we even went for a morning workout one day!  Haha, so you could say that we are addicted....or you could say that we are just having way too much fun.  Either way......you're probably right!  Anyways, we also got to teach a bunch this past week.  We have 4 new investigators from this past week!  Heavenly Father truly does bless us as we are patient and work hard.  They are all great and it is going to be awesome to teach them.  Lot's of them have heard of the gospel before or were even taught a bit before, but they weren't ready then.  But it almost seems like they are ready now!  So the work is going along really really well here, even though it rains a lot haha.  But that is good!

Scriptures from the week from my pal Alma.  Super good and I can't wait for you all to read them!
  • Alma 42:23
  • Alma 42:4
  • Alma 41:8
  • Alma 41:5
  • Alma 40:12
  • Alma 39:14
My spiritual/inspirational thought comes from a quote that Elder Aldous was quoting.  Maybe some of you have heard this before but, "When you want success as much as you want to breathe, that is when you'll be successful."  Remember that nothing of worth comes without work.  That includes a strong faith in Jesus Christ.  Faith takes time and action.  Faith is an action word and without actions, faith is nothing.  Without works, faith is dead.  So get out and do something nice for someone else this next week without thinking about what you'll get in return.  You'll be blessed for it and you will make Heavenly Father very happy.  I love you all, have a great week!

Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Hello everyone!  So to start off with, thank you to all those who wished me a happy birthday!  It really does mean a lot.  It rained a lot this past week, but hey that is alright with me!  The only problem is is that is seems like fall came early this year to Finland.  It's already down into the 60's!  Oh well, you just keep pressing forward I guess!  But this past week was really good.  We were able to do some great teaching and finding and we even had one of our investigators come to church!!  So that was really awesome.  Plus we were able to go on exchanges with the Zone Leaders in Oulu this past week!  So that was great and we just have some super sweet Elder's here, even though one of the Zone Leaders had to go home early because of school.  But it was a lot of fun and we were able to have some great work be done.

I actually remembered my list this week!  So fear not, I have some great scriptures for you all!
  • Alma 36:3
  • Alma 34:41
  • Alma 33:19-22
  • Alma 32:27-43
  • Alma 32:21
  • John 1:29
My spiritual thought this week is on agency.  I sometimes just ponder about how much freedom Heavenly Father truly does give us.  We are able to choose everything for ourselves.  Whether or not we are happy, choice.  Whether or not we follow what He asks of us, choice.  Really everything in this life comes down to choices and the righteous use of agency.  So always remember to choose the harder right, than the easier wrong.  I love you all and have an awesome week!

Hello everyone!  So this past week was good!

We did a lot of finding this past week which was fun.  Just lot's and lot's of tracting, but hey that is okay!  We also got to meet with a couple of our investigators which was super nice.  They all are doing so very well which is good and they are coming closer to Christ.  Some interesting things that happened this week...hmmm, well Elder Aldous and I played some Frisbee golf this last preparation day and so that was super good.  We also got to hang out with some Africans yesterday and listen to some Nigerian rap.  Hah, that was interesting.  Overall, it was a good week and we got to do lot's of work.

So to apologize to everyone, I forgot my email scriptures for the week back at the apartment, so just make sure that you are reading your scriptures everyday because that is what is important!  But I will say that personal study of the New Testament and of Alma has been great lately.

My spiritual thought this week comes from a quote that I found a couple of weeks ago.  It is from Elder Scott again, and it says, "Our Heavenly Father did not put us on the earth to fail, but to succeed gloriously."  Sometimes in life it may seem hard to think that we can go forward with faith and actually accomplish anything worthwhile, but remember that we have a loving Heavenly Father that truly does want the best for us.  One of the greatest things that I get to testify each day about is the fact that we are all children of a God and that we are here on this earth to progress and eventually we will get to become like Him.  Remember your worth and potential, and then face the challenge to rise up to it.  I love you all!

Tuesday, July 26, 2016

Hello everyone!  Well, it was a crazy week this past week.

As of now, I'm in my new area, Kajaani!  It is really really beautiful here.  The sky seems huge and we have a very pretty river that is like in the middle of the town, so it is pretty sweet.  The nature and everything here is way way awesome.  I will say, travel is a super downside though.  We have to get up way early in the morning to take a three hour bus ride from here to Oulu every week!  Hah, pretty crazy.  But that is what you get when you are in the middle of the country with no one really close to you.  There are some awesome people that I have met here this week, so that is cool.  Elder Aldous is really nice as well.  He's from Oregon which is super sweet as well.  Other than that, just lots of teaching some great people this past week.

Sorry I will say that I didn't exactly realize how many there were, but I have a lot of scriptures this week..........I promise there won't be as many this next week.
  • Alma 11:40
  • Alma 13:28-29
  • 1 Corinthians 10:13
  • Psalms 18:1-2
  • Mark 2:17
  • Mark 2:27
  • Mark 4:30-32
  • Mark 5:36
  • Mark 9:23-24
  • Alma 18:8-9
  • Alma 17:10
My spiritual though comes from one of the scripture passages, Mark 9:23-24.  A man has asked Jesus to heal his son and Jesus tells him that if he will believe, all things are possible.  The father quickly responds with, "Lord I believe!" but then returns with, "Help thou mine unbelief."  We don't have to have perfect faith for God to work in our lives.  It is an amazing truth that the Lord will bless us even when we can only hope to believe.  He hears us and He loves us so much, that even when it seems hard and almost impossible to believe, he is able to help us grow our faith.  And when trials and hardships come our way remember, "Be not afraid, only believe."  I love you all and have an awesome week!

Hello everyone!  So this week was good and really really sad.  We got transfer calls this week!  So to tell you all I am leaving my favorite city in Finland, Hyvinkää.  It's been so very amazing to serve here and I love all the people here and I am super super sad to leave.  I've been here for 6 months now and so it's all I've ever known.  So let's just say that I was disappointed when I heard that I was leaving.  However, I'm leaving to an apparently very beautiful place called Kajaani.  It is almost in the direct center of Finland so I'm super glad that I'm getting to go there in the summer!  It doesn't have too many members there but apparently it's got some way cool things to see and everything.  So that'll be fun.  I get to move out tomorrow and so that'll be one interesting time of train hopping!  Anyways, so that was the big news this week!  Other than that, not too much happened.  Just lot's of awesome member visits and saying goodbye to some dear friends that I'll miss a lot.  But nothing too exciting for you all to hear about.

My personal studies were great this week!  So here are some way sweet scripture passages for you all.
  • Alma 7:11-13
  • Alma 7:15
  • Alma 7:19-20
  • Alma 7:23-24
  • Alma 9:28
My spiritual thought this past week was just about how much God truly does love us.  We had a great Zone Meeting in which lot's of the departing missionaries were able to testify.  They all had a common theme of stating how much they know that God loves His children.  It was an amazing thing to see that in their short minutes to testify, all of these great missionaries had felt like that is one very important thing that they had learned on their missions.  I also know that God loves each and every one of us.  He truly is our Father in Heaven and He really does know each of us personally and intimately.  Know that He is there and that He is willing to listen and love you.  You just have to ask.  Have a great week!

Hello everyone!  So this past week was good!  We did lots of teaching this week which was awesome.  Our finding really paid off because we have had a couple of really good lessons and we also have a new investigator again this week!  She is super cool and she even referred herself to receive a Book of Mormon.  She became interested from watching a family's vlog on YouTube and she found out that they were Mormon...Shaytards for the win.  But wow, she's super cool and very ready to hear the Gospel.  We also were able to meet with another one of our investigators and she is doing good as well.  Plus, you add in a sweet dinner appointment where we had a lot of fun and learned about Finnish culture and overall, it was a great week.  The Lord really blessed us this past week.

I have a lot of scriptures for you all.  I know that you enjoy them so here's a bunch!
  • Alma 3:19
  • Alma 3:26-27
  • Alma 1:25-26
  • Alma 1:30
  • Mosiah 29:12
  • Alma 5:7,13,19, 26, 27, 38-39, 41
My spiritual thought this week actually comes from a man's tattoo on his arm.  Haha, I know a bit odd, but the message really rang true to me.  It said, "The deepest love is forgiveness."  It's so true that if you truly love people, if you have charity for others, you forgive them and you love them no matter what.  You look past their faults and their past and you see them as they can become.  And always remember that forgiving others, includes forgiving yourself.  Remember, you are doing better than you think you are.  Love yourself, even when you fail.  Because He loves you even though you aren't perfect.  Have a great week!
